Our vision is to see the Gospel transform everything – ourselves as individuals, our church, our city, and the world.
By 2020, we desire to see that vision expressed in our church as a body of thousands of people, gathering in locations throughout the Louisville area, and planting churches all over the world that draw many more un-churched people into a relationship with God.
He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!”
—Revelation 21:5
There’s no way we’re going to impact our city with only a few influential leaders. As we desire more and better communities, we desire more and better leaders for those communities. In the New Testament, leadership isn’t represented with a sword or a staff, but with a towel and basin, and with a cross. We want to follow the model of Jesus, who laid down his life, washed feet, and led by being a servant. Leadership at Sojourn is organic and organized. On the grassroots level, we want men serving and leading in their home as skillful shepherds of their wives and children. In the church at large, we want leaders who are well equipped to move the church forward in every area of ministry. We want gospel pacesetters that are leading our church forward as teachers, counselors, activists and creatives.
What’s Now
Just a few years ago, only a handful of leaders were taking responsibility in leadership at Sojourn. Now, we have over 250 leaders in Community Groups, 65 leaders in SEED, and 80 leaders in our counseling ministries – and that’s just a sampling. Elders and deacons have risen up through our Pastor’s School and Community Group Coaching Network. We’ve partnered with Southern Seminary to launch an on-site MDiv program and our conferences have attracted leaders from all over the county. Our focus isn’t solely on our own leaders and ministries; we aim to equip leaders in churches from across the globe.
What’s New
We want to provide leadership development opportunities for men and women at all levels of ministry.
• Put The Right Leaders in the Right Places
We need skilled and experienced leaders in the right places to lead us forward. Our deacon and elder training processes need to be broadened to make room for new leaders who can carry the expanding load.
• Continue to develop our Internship Program, which prepares young leaders who can carry on our mission in future generations.
• Expanded Leadership Development Opportunities
We need to improve and broaden the impact of Pastor’s School and the Sojourn MDiv program. We hope to see additional leadership development processes emerge across the spectrum of Sojourn ministries
