So I was VERY pregnant with my oldest daughter Willow, and a friend of a friend, Aaron Marrs, invited us to attend Sojourn’s 1st public service. My husband Kyle and I decided to show our support, despite the fact that we had no intention of attending regularly. We were way over-churched and yet so empty inside.
When Willow was born a couple months later, we had only attended Sojourn a few times, but the outpouring of support and love was crazy! We had meals provided for us, people we had never met were calling to check on us, to see what they could do to help. Now she wasn’t the only kid, but she was the 1st baby and none of us, especially me, knew what we were doing. However, that didn’t stop the love and support that flowed from strangers to support us in our time of need.
We were young and knew little about parenting and marriage, and Sojourn stood by us and supported our marriage when it was rocky and helped us raise our babies. It took everyone for us to get to where we are. And to us, that small act of loving our family was enough for us to plant our roots for good.
And now it’s been 9 and a half years and we are able to pour into others because those people loved us in such a simple and tangible way. We believe in the transforming power of gospel centered community and are excited to see what God has planned for Sojourn in the next 10 years.
