Our vision is to see the Gospel transform everything – ourselves as individuals, our church, our city, and the world.
By 2020, we desire to see that vision expressed in our church as a body of thousands of people, gathering in locations throughout the Louisville area, and planting churches all over the world that draw many more un-churched people into a relationship with God.
He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!”
—Revelation 21:5
My dad is a Southern Baptist pastor, and I grew up in a very traditional Southern Baptist Church. So by the time I moved to Louisville for college in the fall of 2007, I was quite familiar with the ins and outs of a typical church, and, frankly, I was tired of it. I was tired of the worship songs that could be either about God or a girl; I was tired of the political ploys as people tried to gain power in the church, and I was tired of just going to church on Sunday.
When my brothers and I went to Sojourn for the first time, I was simply overwhelmed. When the Apostle Paul wrote about practicing Christian virtues in Colossians 3:12-17, he wrote a perfect description of Sojourn. I had been going to church all my life, and I had worshiped with believers from all over the world, but the gospel community I experienced at Sojourn was completely new to me. I loved the liturgy, the rich theological songs, the gospel-centered sermons, and the celebration of communion each week. I immediately jumped into membership classes and within two months I was regularly attending the Baylor’s community group and serving on the connect team.
I’m so thankful for Sojourn and the elders that lead us forward. I’m thankful for my community group and the guys in my triad who help carry my burdens and offer forgiveness and encouragement when I fall back into my sin. Even though I have been going to Bible college for over two years, I can honestly say that it had very little to do with shaping me into the man of God that I am today. Praise God for Sojourn Community Church.
