Our vision is to see the Gospel transform everything – ourselves as individuals, our church, our city, and the world.
By 2020, we desire to see that vision expressed in our church as a body of thousands of people, gathering in locations throughout the Louisville area, and planting churches all over the world that draw many more un-churched people into a relationship with God.
He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!”
—Revelation 21:5
Being a part of Sojourn’s East campus has revitalized my love for the gospel. I have been a Christian for a long time, understand “the gospel” message and have been involved in a number of churches. What sets Sojourn apart for me is how the gospel-centered atmosphere permeates everything and frees me up to find joy, in spite of my sinfulness.
It’s so easy as a Christian to “out-grow” the cross and move on to other things. But every week through the Word preached, the Word sung and the Lord’s Supper celebrated, I hear the beautiful truth that my sin and weakness have been dealt with on the cross and that they are only a barrier in my relationship with God when I hide them or ignore them or allow my pride to deny them.
I know that sin and weakness are a part of the human condition and that God expects me to grow and put off the “sin that so easily entangles” me. Yet I also know, because of my sin and weakness, that the harder I try to put my sin behind me, the greater my discouragement when I fall so far short. It is incredibly freeing to me to be reminded to deal with my sin by pursuing Jesus, rather than pursuing discipline—that real change is not accomplished by trying harder, but by repenting and running to Jesus. I am immensely grateful to be worshipping God in a community that keeps the gospel central so that I can live in that reality every day!
